Follow Up Appointments Update
I met with my surgeon last Tuesday afternoon as a follow-up and to discuss the pathology report from my lymph nodes and ovaries.
She removed 17, & of the 18 total (including the 1 she took during the 1st surgery) cancer was found in 16 of them. It is not a surprise because my cancer is HER double positive (based on the production of my estrogen and progesterone hormones), as I mentioned in a recent post. Ultimately I trust that the Lord allowed any cancerous cells to be present, because if He wanted to completely eradicate it He would.....but He's not done working just yet.
This does not change anything going forward...it's just information. My treatment will continue as planned. In fact, yesterday I started taking the hormone suppressor pill I'll be taking for the next 10 years. So the last thing left to "do" is radiation.
Oh, so my surgeon answered a question I had: if I had my ovaries removed, why still take a hormone suppressor pill? Turns out that even without the ovaries our bodies still produce hormones that turns into estrogen when absorbed into our tissue (this is why we don't begin to grow mustaches, etc.). The pill will help to bring the estrogen to a tiny amount.
Finally, I still had too much fluid, so I have to keep my drain :( lol thank God, it doesn't hurt this time. Since Tuesday it is less, but still not quite where it's supposed to be (20ml or less in 48 hours). Good thing is that I don't have to make an appointment to get it removed, I can just walk in; bad thing is that I can't drive until it's removed :( most of ya know I get cabin fever easily and it's been too hot to go out often lol
At my follow up appointment with my oncologist, on Thursday, he basically went over the same information the surgeon explained and he gave me the prescription for the hormonal pills My follow up with his office isn't until October 5th.
