Connecting Updates

This where you share your diagnosis and treatment experiences. Your Guests will view this page to find out how things are going.

Click on "Create connecting entry" to add a journal entry for the day or week. When adding an entry, you have a few options:

1. Email your Registered Guests (Registrants), so they automatically receive a copy of your Connecting entry. Just check the box below your Connecting entry.
2. Upload a picture to capture the moment or sentiment.
3. Some messages may be more private than others. If you only want your Registrants to read the message, select the checkbox that says, "Check here to send this as an email to users registered on your site". Then, only registered users that have logged onto your site will be able to read your private message.

Special instructions for iphoto users:
1. Select the photo you would like to export in iphoto.
2. In the top left hand corner, select File drop-down/Export.
3. An "Export File" window will pop open (not sure if you're on a desktop or laptop - version of this popup slightly varies). From the "Format" dropdown, select "JPG".
4. Scale the image size to a smaller format.
5. Click the "Export" button in bottom of window. New pop up will ask you to name the file and where to export the photo. Export the photo to the desktop or a file on your computer.
6. The JPEG will then be saved on your desktop or whichever file you chose and you can upload the photo to the website from the desk top or from wherever you saved the photo.

Still Good News
01/11/10 4:27 PM

I got the report from the doctor's office on Friday. Apparently, "no overt malignancy" means the same as benign. There are some odd cells showing up, but they're not cancerous. The official term is "nodular hyperplasia."

Good News!

Just heard from the oncologist's office. The nurse said that the report was "no overt malignancies." Good news! Although to me, that's not the same as "benign." She said there were other comments that she's not qualified to interpret. She'll give the report to the nurse practitioner and he'll call me if there's more to discuss. Hmm.

Today's appointment
12/31/09 5:07 PM

I found out from today's appointment that the lump is most likely a benign cyst. The least likely scenario is metastatic cancer. So that's really good news!

Latest Developments
12/30/09 6:04 PM

Out of the blue, I got a phone call from the hospital's scheduling department to schedule a thyroid biopsy. Having had the thyroid ultrasound (announced in the same surprising way), I wasn't completely taken aback. But no one from any doctor's office called to say this would be happening.

I was supposed to have an appointment with my oncologist's nurse practitioner on Monday, but his daughter had a skiing accident over the weekend. So my appointment was rescheduled for tomorrow. Originally, this was a routine appointment, but has taken on more significance now.

The biopsy is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 4. When I talked with the scheduler, she said it must have been a cancellation, because she'd been scheduling thyroid biopsies for the middle of January. I think God worked it out so I wouldn't have to wait so long. It was much easier to schedule a breast biopsy than this one.

So I see it this way. There are three possible outcomes for the biopsy:
1. A benign nodule on the thyroid (the best scenario)
2. A primary cancer of the thyroid (If it's cancer, not a bad scenario, since thyroid cancer is easily treated.)
3. Metastasis of the breast cancer (not a good scenario at all)

I appreciate your prayers.
