She is victorious

My mom has finished her journey home. She has fought the good fight and won. She is now probably water skiing in heaven on the most crisp, smooth water and the brightest sun. She is no longer in pain, and there are no more tears.

My family has felt so loved and supported by each of you. Words cannot express it. During her final days her room was constantly full of family and friends, and we were never without food, snacks, hugs, and warm prayers. Honestly, at times, we had more chairs in her room than they had left in the lobby.

I have never been through this experience before, including...

Latest update

Thank you so much to all the wonderful visitors and friends that have shared an overwhelming amount of love and kindness to my family. My mom has enjoyed so many great conversations, and had the best meals and sweets these past couple of weeks. We are really grateful my dad isn't having to cook :)

My mom is continuing to be so strong and brave. She never lets any of us see her down, and still thinks of others first. She needs lots of reminders to just sit back and let us get a chance to care for her. I have *cough* 32 *cough* years to repay. My sister has been able to be home from...

Weekend hospice stay

Thank you again for supporting my mom and family. We have had some big ups and also big lows these past couple months. For many weeks my mom was doing amazing. She was all about town, going to t-ball games, hanging with friends, you name it. But then a couple of weeks ago she started to have a lot more pain. The pain is mainly in her abdomen, and there is enlargement there. The doctors informed us that this is a sign of progression of the cancer. While we knew this was coming, it was still hard to hear. Honestly, I felt like we were getting the cancer diagnosis all over again. My mom had...

A short update

I wanted to give you all an update. We are about 8 weeks into my mom's hospice care. The first month or so was long and didn't bring much positive change, but these last few weeks have been really good. My mom says she feels better than she has in a long time. The nurses and doctors have been able to come up with a medication regime that is working well. She spends a lot of time at home, so visitors and friends are totally welcome. The dock and boat this summer will be the perfect hang out.

I also want to thank everyone who has come out to visit my mom, brought her food, sent flowers, or...

Big decisions made today

Thank you for continuing to walk this journey alongside us. I write this post tonight with many mixed emotions. Let me start with a little background of how things have been, and then catch you up to where we are tonight.

The last month has been rough. My mom was doing mediocre with her latest chemo options. She was doing one that didn’t have many side effects besides the (seemingly normal and expected) nausea and fatigue. Unfortunately, her cancer markers were still slowly rising. Her doctor recommended a different chemo option that was stronger, but came with some stronger side effects...

Love Getting Good News

I want to start off by saying how thankful I am for all of you that ask how my mom is doing. Every time someone mentions that they haven't seen any updates, I am first embarrassed by my lack of blogging, but then feel so appreciative that you take the time to invest in my mom's journey. Each person that is on her side is so valued by us. Thank you for loving her.

So the update...medically speaking she is doing really well. It was last winter when her cancer marker was in the 900's. She has now had two months where the counts are in the 160's. This is a drastic improvement. We are...

Prayers Please

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We were able to enjoy a lot of time together as a family. However, on Saturday, my mom went to the emergency room because of extreme pain. The pain was located in her pelvis area and hip joints. The ER gave her some pain medication and steroids as an anti-inflammatory. She was then scheduled to have a PET scan on Tuesday and see her oncologist on Wednesday. The pain still continued, but as usual, my mom was super tough and able to make it to see the doctor. He reported that her PET scan revealed progression of the cancer in her bones and in the...

Happy Birthday Mom

Today is my mom's birthday! I could go on and on about all of the wonderful things she does or how great she is, but you guys already know all of those things and have stories of your own. I will say that I would hang out with her all day; every day if that was possible. Not many daughters can say that. I am so incredibly blessed!

Many of you have asked how my mom is doing and what the latest news is. Overall, my mom is doing well. The cancer has been stable all year, meaning that there are no new spots. However, this also means that it is not really down much either. Her counts (on her...

Ressuming Chemo

I should have written this post a month ago, but unfortunately every time I sit down at the computer I get a “baby page” from one of the kiddos and then lose my train of thought…so here it goes, and I apologize if it seems disjointed, Will is wanting my attention.

My mom went for her monthly check up in March to check on her cancer marker counts and because she was continuing to have some pain.  The counts were continuing to go up, so the doctor recommended resuming chemo.  He offered that my mom could try a different kind that would not have the side effect of hair loss.  She really liked...

Continuing to get good news

We have continued to make progress and get positive feedback regarding my mom's treatment.  In December, her cancer markers came back in the 100's.  This was great news and meant that the doctor was okay with my mom taking a 6 week break from treatment and coming to see him.  This meant that over the holidays my mom would not have to worry about chemo treatments or side effects.  However, she discovered that she needed to have her gallbladder removed due to gallstones, so that was a bummer, but also a relief once she recovered from the surgery.

On Friday, my mom went back to the...
