Exchange Surgery Scheduled

  • Surgery for the expander/implant exchange is currently set for 2/7/18 at 7:30 am at Princeton Hospital.
  • The surgery should take 4 hours and is outpatient, meaning after recovery I should be able to go home.
  • Recovery (before I can get back to regular activities) is 2 weeks. Kevin reminded me that means normal people activities and not superhero activities. (yes, I need definition)
  • Full recovery should be about 4-6 weeks. (YIKES!)

Today we went to see Dr. Lynch (plastic surgeon) for a pre-op appt. for my (hopefully) final surgery. This surgery is to remove the current expanders from my chest - you know, those turtle shell, tupperware type plastic and to replace them with the permanent implants.

This is not a regular boob job where I get to just choose the size. There seems to be some misunderstanding about this - I know because I didn't understand it either and I am going through it. After mastectomy you do not get to tell the doctors the size you want to be and they make it so. They measure your chest wall and choose an implant based on that. If they choose one that is too narrow it would look ridiculous, like someone put a couple of muffins or cookies on your chest. They have to choose the implant based on your measurements. There's more to it than that, but that is a huge part. Also the dr. does his best to make you look balanced. Did you know that when they do this surgery, they put the implants in, sit you up and everyone in the O.R. gives their opinion on how they look over and over until it's right?! No? Me neither!

I am overweight right now from cancer treatments and am working to get rid of the weight, and told him that. Because, if you lose weight while you have implants, the implants don't lose weight and you get to look like Barbie. I definitely don't want to walk around looking like Barbie, let alone race with boobs on the handlebars of the bike!

This is all making Dr. Lynch very nervous because it goes against what he wants to do. Rose who assists him in everything was there, and will be in the O.R. as well, so I feel certain that they will do as I have asked. I told him it's just like when I have to go to a client and cook food that they like that I think is terrible. He's worried I might be angry when I wake up flatter than I am now (NO!!!). I told him he is the professional, I trust him, but, please - Aeroboobs requested!!!
