Ohhhh, My Stomach

R2D2 closeup. Doesn't she look like R1D1?

We are finally mending. Dakota felt well enough yesterday to go to the High Sierra Writers, where he had the opportunity to promote his writing clinic and volunteer for jobs within the organization. He now has 5 individuals signed up for his writing clinic and they meet for the first time tomorrow night. He was a bit tired after 6 hours of being out but was very happy with the results. He monitored the phone every second by putting it on vibrate and holding it in his hand the whole time—ready in case I needed him to dash home.

Meanwhile, I stayed home in bed with a fever and my own stomach discomfort. I became ill on Thursday evening and slept from that point until this morning. The worst part for me was that when my sugars dropped and I drank grape juice to correct them, over 100 mg of carbs failed to bring them up. I was dangerously low at one time and Dakota almost hauled me to the ER. My stomach must have simply stopped working for a couple of days. Diabetes certainly throws a cog in the works sometimes. We both had a wretched, miserable time and are so happy to be getting back into life now. Dakota dropped 7 pounds. I lost 5 and hope to regain most of it. My chemo team wants their patients to have some reserve. I’m hoping that I’ll be ready for chemo when Tuesday arrives.

Mother’s Day is such a nice day to finish recovering. Several good wishes have been received, and I revel in being a Mom! My mother is an amazing and wonderful woman! I am so proud to have benefited from her excellent and loving parenting. Today would have been my Dad’s 92nd birthday, so he has been in my thoughts as well. He passed away 3 years ago.

I have been too ill to fully enjoy all my birthday and Mother’s Day gifts. However, they make me smile with each thought of them, and I’ll be back in full appreciation mode tomorrow.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY! To the many wonderful moms who may read my blog. I hope you feel the love and appreciation of your children and that you find ways to appreciate your own mothers. What an incredible gift motherhood is!
