Day 40

It is very hard to grasp that today is day 40. Reality is we haven’t even put day 39 to rest with a good nights sleep. Yet here I sit at 3:15 in the morning writing this post for you all. Well, for me really. For our journey. My brothers voice rings through my head “Now don’t you stay up too late.” I of course laugh as I head out the door. Here I find myself seeking comfort in the quietness of a blog post.

Yesterday, day 39, I am grateful for it. In the post before mine you read how Opa and Mimi enjoyed Sterling in the morning. Sweet NASCAR memories. Then it was my turn. Right...

Opa's Views

Well, here it is 9.3.12…I recorded the NASCAR race so I could watch it on my day off.  Sterling Sky came up to my room and wanted to see Mimi and me.  After hugs and kisses she settles into my lap and snuggled close.  We proceed to watch lap after lap of the Atlanta Motor Speedway NASCAR Cup race.  She wanted to know about the pit stops-tire changes and gas fill up.  I was so excited to have another grandchild doing what I had done with my father – all those years ago-watch NASCAR.  As she gazed into my eyes I knew that she was mine and she felt safe in my arms.

As I have taken up working...

Bored?

Day 35

Seems as though we are settled into a routine. Breakfast, school, Keppra, line flushes, cap and dressing changes.

Sterling’s mood is bright and cheery and we are ever so grateful for that. She plays and sings and dances around the house. Having her at home is the best thing in the world. Here at home she is the Sterling we all have come to love. Full of life, spunk and attitude.

Today she had her OT/PT evaluation at Leaps & Bounds Pediatric Therapy and I am anxiously awaiting to hear all about how it went. When I do I will be sure to up date you all.

As our journey has...

Day 32: August 28, 2012

Wait, wait, wait. Back up to day 27: August 23, 2012. Friday morning all seems well. Maybe well is not the correct word to use in this instance but considering everything that has gone on in the last 26 days prior, all was seemingly well. iPhone was in rice-o-lation and my right foot was a little swollen. So what I was gimping around the house. What’s an injured foot in comparison to a cancerous brain tumor? NOT.A.THING. So I thought to myself. After talking with several adults in the house we decided on heading on over to Urgent Care for what I was hoping to be...

All is quiet on the western front...

Day 26

This Tante has an insane knack for showing up at the right place at the wrong time. Can you say dressing change? Or how about screaming Sterling? Yes this is the scene that I happened upon when I got to the third floor this morning. I could hear her screaming the moment I got off of the elevator. I knew I had not been lucky this morning. Darn it. I knew I was getting there right in the middle of the dressing change. Shoot. In I walked set my stuff down and sanitized my hands. Then jumped right in to help the Mama, Papa and the nurse. These times are so bitter sweet to me. I love...

Bubba goes to Disneyland

Day 24

Yeeehaw!! Our sweet Bastien boy got to do something super fun today. A trip to DISNEYLAND!! What an awesome day in our journey.

Opa made things happen and bought Baz a pass late last night. This morning around 11:30ish Mama made the call and told Bastien what his afternoon was going to consist of. He was exuberant. Did a full on happy dance that we could hear over the phone. You see Bastien has never been to Disneyland. This journey has been rough on him to say the least. We try to do things to brighten his day but quite often the days revolve around sister love. Mama and Papa...

Quiet
Life is loud, especially nowadays with so many cars on the road honking at trucks speeding by, tv's blaring continuously, our own minds never ceasing to re-run our lists of To-Do's. Peace and quiet seems so hard to find, and yet I'm here with a new perspective.

Now I sit, often in a somewhat dark, quiet room with my sweet resting daughter, who used to run around screaming. You know girls, they can scream in such a way that your hair stands straight up! I miss that. My little boy Bastien crashing cars into each other or playing super heroes as he runs around my feet, as only little boys can!...

Linger a little longer

Hold them a little closer, squeeze them a little tighter, linger a little longer, and let them know you love them a little bit more often.

This is the only advice I can give. Because I know all to well how even when life changes around you, your difficulties may not change, bad habits may not change, hardships may not change.

One thing that can and may change is remembering to linger a little longer and remind them that THEY are more important to you then anything else in the world: your job, your hobby, your house, your car, all of that 'normal' stuff that does have to get done but just...
