Hopefully back again soon

I fell back in January and started having severe leg pain. It had gotten to the point where I am in a wheelchair, and for a while I thought it was an injury to my leg. It turns out that apparently when I fell I broke a piece in my L5 vertebrae and now it's shifted pretty bad and it is pinching my nerves which is causing my leg pain.

I'm glad they finally found it, and after talking with the surgeon on different possible treatments (basically a steriod injection or surgery) I've decided to have the surgery. They will put some screws, rods and a bone graft in my lower back and that should...

Still struggling with the surgery

The surgery went well and the hernia repair is doing well, but the incision from the surgery is problematic.

I had an infection last week, and it also still hasn't stopped bleeding. I am finishing up my antibiotics today, and the doctor said that the incision is closing up, but it may take a while longer before it stops bleeding.

So needless to say I haven't started exercising again which is really frustrating, and I'm still having to change the bandage twice a day because of the bleeding.

I'm hoping it will stop soon and then I can start thinking about getting back into my exercise...

Latest news

Well I had my hernia surgery last Monday, and for the most part it went very well. I did have some bruising from the air tube/anesthesia, but everything else went well.

I had a bit of bleeding that's basically a hematoma, and I'm going back tomorrow for my follow up with the surgeon.

I also had some good news about my hearing. I finally decided to try a hearing aid and I had my appointment today. They tested my hearing which really hasn't changed since I lost my hearing in my right ear. She then did some tests to see if a hearing aid would help. Without amplification I had a hearing...

More updates

Well the knee surgery recovery went well, but I started having trouble with my Statins again so my doctor has told me to stop taking them for now and I've started going to the gym again to regain my leg strength and to lose some weight.

It's now time again for another PSA test and I had that done this morning, so hopefully that will continue to have good news.

Last week I noticed that I had a lump where I had my cancer surgery, so I went to my doctor on Monday and he said that I've got a surgical hernia where the probes were used. So I'm scheduled tomorrow to see the surgeon and they are...

Latest news

Well everything is still going well with my cancer, nothing is showing up yet.

I finally was able to get to the point with the VA where they exhausted all the tests and physical therapy they wanted, well almost. I went in during April and the doctor then said that I didn't have any issues with my knee based on the MRI and a knee replacement was not needed, and that actually all my problems are related to weak muscles in my leg and hip. He wanted me to undergo 'intense' physical therapy' and he said that the issues with my knee would go away.

After I explained that when my knee started to...

Great News!

My test came back and it didn't go up, it went down :) Just had my appointment and he's even moved my follow ups from every three months to every 6 months for the next 5 years, then it will go to once a year again :)

Now I just need to get my cholesterol medication straightened out!!!

Another update

Well I had another test and the PSA level is still getting higher, I had an appointment with my Oncologist at the Cancer Center and he said that for now we'll just keep testing and once it reaches a specific level they'll start me on a hormone treatment. The reason being is I can't get any more radiation treatment in my pelvis and they really don't know where the cancer is or where it's spread to, so the best option would be the hormone treatment which would attack it no matter where it's at in my body even if it's in several locations.

Hope everyone is doing well!

Back is doing much better

My back is finally where it was before I hurt it, but my physical therapist says I need to use the cane so if my knee gives out I won't fall down. So far that's worked out quite well, and I can catch myself with the cane instead of falling.

I went back for my follow up with my surgeon about the prostate cancer, and he said everything looked good and that I would be going to 6 month visits to have my PSA checked. PSA is the test for prostate cancer, and normally it's between .08 and 5. All my tests so far have always shown up with a reading of zero or a trace, nothing registered. ...

I hate my back right now :P

Early this week things were going quite well. My therapist said my back is healing just like it should, and he started to give me some strength exercises to start trying to get back to normal.

Everything was good for two days then yesterday as I was walking onto the elevator my back gave out, and then it happened again as I was heading out from work. I tried to keep just using my cane, but had to go back to using the walker again today.

The therapist did warn me that this could happen, so he told me to just switch back to doing stretches until it gets better then I can do the strength...

Back is slowly getting better

I'm doing physical therapy each week, and it's slowly improving. It went from being on the side to centralizing which is good so the pain was in the center. The past week it's just been super stiff and gives me trouble moving, but most of the pain is gone. The big issue is hurting it again and setting me back to where I was.

But as I learn different habits for sitting and moving around that keeps my back in the correct position it's going to be less and less likely I hurt it again. Right now is the trickiest part because it's pretty much healed, but not strong or flexible so it's real...
