Welcome to my site!

i'm a 36 year old mommy of one with another one currently baking, wife, sister, daughter and physician newly diagnosed with advanced rectal cancer. I sit here writing my first "about me" while receiving my first chemotherapy with my amazing husband by my side- bless his soul. Blessed. That's what I am. Surrounded by amazing family and friends, who view me as strong, but in actuality, I get my strength from them. I'm surrounded by the best medical team I could possibly have who, despite my not so great medical prognosis, are trudging this journey along side me, like my family and friends cheering me on, with the fine balance of realism and hope. Despite the long road ahead, with in truth, a not historically promising prognosis, i am anticipating and envisioning the day where I am declared NED, which in cancer speak, stands for no evidence of disease. I mean, 0.002% of women are diagnosed with colorectal cancer during pregnancy... with those odds, I should go to Vegas and get a lottery ticket. Anyway, why am i blogging, you ask? A couple of reasons... Obviously this journey is going to be filled with ups and downs and this will be my outlet and I'm going to be looking to everyone and anyone who reads this for support and encouragement. The other reason is simple... I've spent 3/4 of my life in school to become a doctor, to "save lives" and "to help people" as cliche as that is... With this bump in my road, I am no longer working in the traditional sense of doctoring. But if I can bring awareness to others, to encourage them to be their own health care advocates, then maybe another life will be saved. And lastly, one doesn't go through something like this and not learn something from it... I will be magnanimous and impart whatever wisdom that may come my way upon you.
