My Story

Last updated: Apr 30 2014

WildFlower is what my all my friends in the young adult cancer community call me and just like all of them I have cancer. Papillary Cell Carcinoma - Thyroid Cancer that has metastasized the lymph nodes on both sides of my neck. Diagnosed April 16th, 2014 two days before my 27th birthday. I am on the Programs Team at First Descents, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing young adult cancer survivors with adventure therapy experiences. Ironic don't you think? Over the last 4 years with my involvement at First Descents I thought in the back of my mind..."how weird would it be if I had cancer?" It's really weird now.

I will have surgery May 7th 2014, a thyroidectomy with a bilateral neck dissection, to be exact (don't Google it, word to the wise) and will spend the early summer recovering at home. Radioactive Iodine treatment will follow up the surgery later in the summer. I am positive I will have successful treatment.

Thank You to everyone who has supported my family and I through this challenging journey. If you would like to lend a hand to the healing here are a few suggestions...

- Prayers - Positive Thoughts and Waves - Good Vibes accepted 24/7

- Food - please no casseroles - fresh food welcomed

- Donations - Use the Donate button (for a small fee) on the Giving Angels tab above or send your donation to Wildflower - 1650 S. Clayton St. Denver, CO 80210 to avoid online donation fee. As a friend of mine once said "Cancer is expensive" any donation will be appreciated from the bottom of my heart, thank you for your generous support.

This diagnosis will not define me, it will be just another crazy story along the winding road of life. Expect to find me in the places where the sun is shining, loving the adventure.
